New Vespa S coming soon

Piaggio to expand Vespa scooter range, bring S scooter to India.
Italian two-wheeler specialist Piaggio has confirmed they are working to bring India the Vespa S scooter. Piaggio has recognized a strong potential in the Indian two-wheeler market for its premium scooters, to cash in on which they are gradually expanding their product portfolio in our market. After the LX125 automatic scooter arrived here last year, Piaggio recently introduced the Vespa VX, in essence the LX125 with a front disc brake and smart new colours. In addition to which we recently learnt the stylish and super premium Vespa 946 scooter is slated for an India launch.

The Vespa S uses mechanical internals that are based on the LX125. The most prominent styling feature is a classic looking rectangular headlamp, as opposed to the round units of the LX125 and VX. The instrument cluster too looks from the past, comprising an analogue speedometer, fuel-gauge and digital-clock apart from various warning lights. On the mechanical front, the S should house a similar 125cc, four-stroke, single-cylinder and air cooled engine as already seen here on the LX125 and VX. Maximum power generated will be in the region of 10bhp.

However, some international markets do avail the S with a 150cc, fuel-injected engine that generates higher power. Like the LX125 and VX scooters already in India, the S too shall use a CVT transmission.
A Vespa signature monocoque steel chassis, single-side hydraulic front shock absorber and rear monoshock should remain constant. As with all Vespa scooters to date, expect the S to be similarly premium priced. Piaggio hope to add the S to their showrooms later this year.
