This is the ‘Lifestyle Utility Vehicle’; Toyota Hilux in the market

Toyota has launched the Hilux in the Indian market, which it describes as a lifestyle utility vehicle. Toyota said the price will be announced in March and delivery will begin in April. Prior to the launch, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) had started accepting bookings for the Hilux with an advance of Rs 1 lakh.

The Toyota Hilux is based on the IMV-to-Platform, which is the basis for the Fortuner and Innova Christie. The vehicle is powered by a 2.8 liter diesel engine. Available in automatic and manual gearboxes. The six-speed automatic variant produces up to 204 bhp and 500 Nm of torque, while the six-speed manual variant produces 204 bhp and 420 Nm of torque. The Hilux arrived with four wheel drive lighting.

The Hilux is the first vehicle in the segment to come with drive modes. Safety features include 700mm water wading capacity, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist control, 7 airbags, Downhill Assist control and Vehicle Stability Control.

Despite being described as an off-roader, Toyota brought the Hilux with a twin cab, with no shortage of amenities and features in the interior. The Hilux comes with a striking resemblance to the Fortuner in terms of dashboard structure, steering wheel and seat. The Hilux comes with ambient lighting, auto air conditioning, an eight-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto / Apple carplay compatibility, and a JBL speaker.
